Used LCD Projectors
Buying Guide To Used LCD Projectors
Buying used LCD projectors is a great way to
save some money. In fact if you can find a great
one you can save a significant amount of money and still
get all the features of a new one.
People sell their projectors for a variety of
reasons, but we really don’t care why, we just want the
best deal. Here are some points to consider and
some places to look when trying to find some used
projectors.
Different Kinds of Used
Projectors
- Demo Projectors: These have been used by
companies who sell projectors as display models and
generally still have a very long lamp life left and a
full warranty
- Refurbished Projectors: These normally are
good deals because they come with a brand new lamp
and a factor warranty.
- Bargin Buys: These can be a good deal, but
you really don’t know how old the bulb is or how long
it will last. If possible request a new bulb be
inserted before buying.
LCD Projector
Resolution
Remember that the higher the resolution, the
higher the quality. This means that projectors that
have a high resolution sell for a lot more. If you
are just going to be doing simple power point
presentations than SVGA or XGA resolutions should be good
enough.
However if you are going to be doing displays or
presentations where you need all the fine details easily
visible then you need a higher resolution like SXGA
(1280x1024) or the UXGA (1600 x 1200).
LCD Projector
Brightness
This is one of the major factors you need to
consider when comparing used LCD projectors. The
higher the ANSI lumens rating the brighter and more vivid
the output will be.
<1000 lumens: These projectors will
likely be not enough for your needs because the output
will be too dark for most rooms. However if you
have a very small display area, this size might
do.
1000-2000: Projectors between these two
ANSI ratings are perfect for most uses either in the
boardroom or any midsized room to display your
presentations.
>2000 lumens: Projectors of this
brightness are perfect for large boardrooms where not all
light can be blocked out. These are also great
projectors for large classrooms as well.
LCD Projector
Contrast
The contrast of a projector is simple the
difference between the lightest and darkest areas
displayed. Any ratios greater than 400:1 is perfect
for most rooms where the lights are on.
LCD Projector
Weight
If you are not going to move the projector
around than this doesn’t really factor into your
decision. But if you are going to carry your
projector around than there are some light weight ones on
the market, less than 5 pounds.
LCD Projector
Connectivity
Before you buy used LCD projectors make sure it
has the data connection ports that you need to hook it up
to your computer or other media source.
LCD Projector Lamp
Life
Replacement lamps are very expensive and
annoying to replace so look for ones that have over a few
thousands of hours of lamp life. Also if your
projector has a bulb saver mode, use that to help prolong
lamp life.
Where To Find
Them
There are lots of places where you can find used
projectors. Ebay, local business companies,
classified ads, and more.
Just make sure the projector fits your needs and
that you are not buying it because it is the cheapest you
can find.
Remember that brightness is probably the main
factor you are looking for, so use that to narrow your
search quickly.
